Theatre Workshops

Workshops typically need to be scheduled in conjunction with a performance.  They run between 45 minutes to an hour and can be catered to the needs of your program.  Choose from one of the following workshops or have us cater one directly to your school, library, or camp.

Improvisation
(Or green acting because there is no paper involved!)   Improvisation is an amazing tool to use in any situation. Learning to think on your feet can help you become much more confident in presenting information to any kind of audience. In this workshop, you will learn the basic principles of improvisational theatre. Don’t worry if you have never been on stage in your life. We will start by going over the actors most precious tools: voice, body, and imagination. Through a myriad of games and exercises, you will learn to connect with your scene partner, the space, and your body. Some things to be covered: object work, improvised monologues, group games(some you may have seen on Who’s Line is it anyway?).   And look Ma, no script!

Creating a Character
In this workshop, students will hone their acting skills by focusing on the creation of a character.  Each class will focus on different aspects of a character from how the character walks and talks to figuring out what the character wants and how this affects his/her actions.

Exploring a Character
In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to take a beginners look into the art of acting.  With a proper introduction of theatrical terms as well as exercises to motivate acting technique; students will be able to apply acquired skills in developing a character of their choice.  The students will have the opportunity to embody a character using physicality, true emotions and the use of costumes and props.

Auditioning 101
This workshop will provide students with the opportunity to collaborate with professional actors in preparation for a two minute audition piece.  Each participant will be given suggestions and feedback through mock auditions as well as group and individual work.  The participant will leave this workshop with a completed audition piece as well as a list of monologues that will help to best demonstrate the actors’ abilities.

Scene Study
This workshop is designed to introduce or enhance your knowledge of basic acting skills through the use of scenes. You will be introduced to vocal and physical techniques that will allow you to play a variety of roles. We will work on analyzing the scenes and some effective text exercises for the preparation of acting. You will experience as many different scene partners and genre’s as you can and leave the course feeling comfortable with relating to the script.

Stage Combat
This workshop is designed to accompany Oliver Twist, Shakespeare for Kids, and Treasure Island.  You will be introduced to safe basic hand to hand combat for kids, and participate in some of the moves you’ve seen in our plays!  Please ask about the availability of this workshop in your region.
